Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana

What is Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana?

The Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) is a health insurance scheme launched by the government of Maharashtra on July 2012, the motive of the scheme is to provide better health treatment to economically poor people or those are below poverty line.  MJPJAY provide free treatment in around 488 hospitals across the state.

The MJPJAY covers cashless hospitalization, surgeries, diagnostic tests, ambulance services, consultation charges and many more. An Individual can take the treatment in public as well as listed private hospitals across the state.

Example:

Madhav working as a civil helper, he is getting Rs. 250 on daily basis.  He is staying with his wife and two children's studying in Nagar Palika school.

One day, unfortunately, one of the children got serious and requires urgent hospitalization or surgery.  Without health insurance, the Madam and family would have to bear all the expenses of hospitalization, cost of surgery, medicines, which is hardly impossible things and could be a financial challenge for them.

However, since they are already enrolled in the MJPJAY scheme, they can take the benefit of cashless treatment within the defined hospitals.  So they take the child to a nearby hospital.  The hospital starts treatment immediately and gave all medical care, including the surgery to the child without any payment.

As a result, the child receives all the necessary treatments, and the family does not face any financial challenges or burden.

Conclusion:

This example illustrates during the medical emergency, how the MJPJAY scheme provides coverage of healthcare expenses without giving any stress and financial challenges.
